Painter Susan Rothenberg (b. 1945) was born in Buffalo, New York and received her B.F.A. from Cornell in 1967. She enrolled briefly at the Corcoran School of Art, Washington, D.C., before moving to New York in 1969 and studying dance with Deborah Hay and Joan Jonas. Her first solo exhibition was at the Greene Street Gallery, New York, in 1975.
Rothenberg's work has been exhibited at Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, Stedelikj Museum in Amsterdam, Waddington and Tate galleries in London, and at numerous galleries in New York, Seattle, Boston, and elsewhere. Her honors include a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship Grant, Cornell University Alumni Award, and Skowhegan Medal for Painting. Sperone Westwater Gallery, New York, featured Rothenberg's work in a solo show in late 2006. She lives in New Mexico.
