by David Rathman
Roar Shocks contains texts from treatises on the Rorschach procedure, which were subsequently modified by David Rathman through multiple photocopying. Rathman's evocative page compositions combine these ambiguous texts, charts, and snippets of dialogue with stark black and white ink drawings. The papers went through numerous transformations, with several layers of treatments, before being printed with a based-down black ink resembling copy machine toner. The result is a schizophrenia of page turning, at once playful and serious, ironic and straight, frightening and soothing—the images and texts of Roar Shocks invite multiple readings and interpretations.
