This is a monumental catalog, especially considering the ephemerality of the mimeo publications and their histories. It serves not only as a checklist and document of an era in American literary history, but as inspiration for poets, artists, editors, and publishers. Illustrated with over 200 black and white photographs. Checklists are provided; another 500 presses and magazines are cataloged in an appendix. There is also an extensive index, a 50 page introduction by Steve Clay and Rodney Phillips, and a gatefold pullout literary chronology of the 1950-1980 period.
Co-published with The New York Public Library. Designed by Marc Blaustein. This is from an edition of 4000 copies in paper wrappers, there are also 1000 bound in cloth over boards. Both editions long out-of-print. Fine.
