Ivan the Terrible.

N.p., [1959]. Item #2023

Sewn in wrappers, 5 x 4 in. This is from an edition of 100 copies, hand-printed by Larry Jordan. The book includes 31 black and white stills (c. 3 3/4 x 2 3/4 in.) from Sergei Eisenstein's film, Ivan the Terrible (1944), as well as a frontispiece by Eisenstein.

Well-known as an avant-garde filmmaker, Larry Jordan (b. 1934) was associated early on with such filmmakers, poets, and artists as Stan Brakhage (a high school friend), Robert Duncan, Jess, Joseph Cornell, Wallace Berman, and Bruce Connor. "His alchemical approach to imagery creates what he has called the 'theater of the mind, which you construct. That is the Underworld...the realm of the imagination. You have to have a place to work with images'" (Semina Culture).

The interior is fine, the cover is near fine with a few small marks to the back cover and a few small marks to the edge of the bottom of the text block.
