Orpheus.

N.p., [1960]. Item #2024

Sewn in wrappers, 5 x 4 in. This is from an edition of 100 copies ,hand-printed by Larry Jordan. The book includes 33 black and white stills (c. 4 1/2 x 3 1/2 in.) from Jean Cocteau's film, Orpheus (1950), as well as two drawings by Cocteau.

Well-known as an avant-garde filmmaker, Larry Jordan (b. 1934) was associated early on with such filmmakers, poets, and artists as Stan Brakhage (a high school friend), Robert Duncan, Jess, Joseph Cornell, Wallace Berman, and Bruce Connor. "His alchemical approach to imagery creates what he has called the 'theater of the mind, which you construct. That is the Underworld...the realm of the imagination. You have to have a place to work with images'" (Semina Culture).

The interior is fine, the cover is very good plus with a bit of age toning, primarily to the back cover, a couple of marks (1/8, 1/4 in.) to the back cover which also has shallow tide marks.
