Dogs and Chinese Not Allowed. [Exhibition Poster Flyer.]

Something Else Press, 1966. Item #2586

Exhibition poster, 21 1/4 x 29 3/8 in., designed to be folded four times to allow for mailing, this copy sent to Jerome Rothenberg. The poster announces "Exhibition of Notations and Erasures of the Happening" at the Something Else Gallery (May 28–June 8, 1966), the opening of the exhibition (May 27), and "Dé-coll/age-Happening" (May 21). Includes a statement about Happenings and series of instructions for the May 21 event by Vostell. Verso of poster announces that Something Else Press is the exclusive American distributor for Typos Verlag, an avant-garde publisher in Germany, and lists recent publications. Dick Higgins notes that the title, Dogs and Chinese Not Allowed, "came from the grim slogan of the Belgravia Club in pre-World War II Shanghai." (Clay & Friedman, p. 155.) Very good plus to near fine. Mild toning and evidence of mailing.
