Lab at Belmar, 2008. Item #2999

Three-ring binder of corrugated card stock, 11 1/2 x 11 1/2 x 2 1/2 in., approx. 500 pp. "Using ephemera, photographs, props, and video and sound tape, 'In Plain Sight' is the first examination of the important late '60s phenomena of Poetry Events, Street Works and Performances. Glorifying the ephemeral, these forms placed an emphasis on time-based, anti-commercial, anti-object artmaking." [Introductory statement by curators, Judy Collischan and John Pereault].

This catalog documents the street works events initiated and organized by a group of poets and artists assembled by John Perreault including Vito Acconci, Scott Burton, Eduardo Costa, Bernadette Mayer, Marjorie Strider, and Hannah Weiner. The events were held in various locations and with the participation of over 100 writers and artists including the organizers. The documentation is in the form of photocopies of the original flyers, reviews, statements, photographs, instructions, etc. This is an important gathering of information that helps bring into focus little remembered activities of poets and artists in the sixties. Fine.
