Complete collection of publications from Larry Goodell’s Placitas, New Mexico-based Duende Press including magazines, books, postcards, and broadsides with nearly 200 items in total.


Includes the mimeographed magazine Duende (1964–1966), nos. 1–14 with each issue devoted to publishing the work of one poet: Ronald Bayes (nos. 1, 10), A. Fredric Franklyn (no. 2), Richard Watson (no. 3), Kenneth Irby (nos. 4, 8), Margaret Randall (no. 5), Larry Eigner (no. 6), Robert Kelly (no. 7), William Dodd (no. 9), Frederick Ward (no. 11), William Harris (no. 12), David Franks (no. 13), and Larry Goodell (no. 14). Nos. 5 and 7 have cover collage by Bobbie Louise Hawkins, no. 8 includes a note on Kenneth Irby by Robert Creeley, and no. 11 is the first book of poetry by an African-American published in the state of New Mexico.

Also included are the one-shot mimeo magazine Oriental Blue Streak (1968) edited by Larry Goodell and Joe Bottone, and Fervent Valley (1972–1974) nos. 1–5 with various editors including Larry Goodell, Stephen Rodefer, Charles Vermont, Bill Pearlman, and Gus Blaisdell. Contributors to Oriental Blue Streak include Mel Buffington, Judy Grahn, Stephen Rodefer, Gene Frumkin and others. Contributors to Fervent Valley include Gino Clays Sky, Allen Ginsberg, Kell Robertson, Jack Collom, Charles Bukowski, Laura Chester, Bobby Byrd, William S. Burroughs, Fielding Dawson, Lyn Lifshin, Tom Raworth, Larry Eigner, John Brandi, Frank O’Hara, Bill Berkson, Philip Whalen, Gregory Corso, Robert Creeley, Simon Ortiz, Jack Hirschman, Taylor Mead, Michael McClure, and Marcel Duchamp, among others.

There are three sets of postcards: an untitled set of 6 mimeographed cards by Larry Goodell; an untitled set of 15 photocopied cards by Jim Koller, Diane Glancy, Jonathan Greene, and David Benedetti, among others; and Four Postcards by New Mexico Artists including Larry Goodell, Lenore Goodell, and Felix Farm.


The collection includes approx. 135 broadsides in various formats, nearly all with poems by Larry Goodell, and some signed with hand-colored illustrations or details.

Altogether, a thorough example of a small press publishing project that spans decades: from the mimeograph revolution to desktop publishing.
