[Untitled Painting, "Hetty sat on the pharmaceutical hill / feeling ill..."].
1997. Item #3553
56 x 43 in. thangka-style painting on cloth.
Hetty MacLise is known for her contributions to The Oracle, experimental music in the 1960s (with Angus MacLise), and her illustrations for Bardo Matrix Press in the 1970s in Kathmandu. This is one of her latest known works, portraying a temple on a green hill rendered with hazy, stylistic brushstrokes over the image. On the back of the painting, MacLise inscribed an accompanying psychedelic poem that begins "Hetty sat on the pharmaceutical hill / feeling ill.” The painting is meant to be mounted using a wooden dowel at the top and bottom of the piece.
Some toning to the fabric and folds from prior storage. Overall, the painting is in good condition; the cracked appearance is a stylistic affect.
