This set of broadsides was prepared for a conference Women Writing Poetry in America, sponsored by the Center for Research on Women at Stanford University, which was held in April, 1982. The project was edited by Diane Middlebrook and Kathy Walkup. The cover image of the portfolio is by Francis Butler, and the title page is by kw and Connie Thorpe.
The participating poets include many influential contemporary writers: Colleen J. McElroy, Carolyn Kizer, Frances Mayes, Josephine Miles, Janet Lewis, Denise Levertov, Alma Villanueva, Bernice Zamora, Louise Gluck, Chana Bloch, Audre Lorde, Kitty Tsui, Kathleen Fraser, Judy Gray, and Sandra M. Gilbert.
Artists include JoAnn Ugolini, Wendy Hebborn, Patricia Waters, and Frances Butler, among others.
