10 x 8 in. fold-out poster.

“Publishing Granary’s Books: A Conversation in the Margins” (Apr. 26–June 27, 2003), a retrospective exhibition at The University of California at San Diego’s Mandeville Special Collections Library, included all 119 of Granary’s completed publications to date, divided into eight categories: “Collaborations,” “Anthologies,” “Poetry,” “Prose,” “Memory Books,” Typographic Books,” “Book Objects,” and “Scholarly Publications.”

The show brought into focus the role that publisher Steven Clay plays as facilitator and collaborator in devising book projects. To paraphrase Johanna Drucker: "The physical book can be almost incidental, a freeze frame of a process that continues through time. This is a process whereby the reader is an essential part of making the book a communal theater of experience and an instrument for action. Granary recognizes and delights in the way a matrix of ideas form around a book generating a profoundly collaborative process."

For the exhibit’s brochure/poster, each category is presented chronologically to show the overall development of the publishing venture. It includes a short essay and checklist. Poster design by Emily McVarish (thinking of George Maciunas), exhibition curated by Elaina Ganim. Out-of-print.
