First Assembling for Tony Zwicker
by Steven Clay, Brad Freeman, Michael von Üchtrup

An international cast of book artists, curators, publishers, writers, collectors, dealers, and friends gathered in New York City on March 28, 1999, to celebrate friend and colleague Tony Zwicker (1925-2000) and to present her with a festschrift in the style of Assembling. Each participant had produced 150 copies of a single-page artwork in a broad range of mediums—texts, drawings, collages, photographs, prints, all were included—designed in honor of Zwicker.

The pages and an index were collated and placed into envelopes at SUNY Purchase by Amber Phillips, Steven Clay, Brad Freeman and Michael von Üchtrup. Each participant received a whole set, thus ca. 75 'artists proofs' for particpants, ca. 75 for sale.
