The Relation Ship.

Goliard Press, 1966. Item #1280

Cloth and Japanese rice paper over boards with dust jacket. Drawings by Barry Hall printed offset, blind-embossed, and hand-colored by the artist. This is from an edition of 450. Inscribed to Ray DiPalma. The poet’s first book and the first book from the press. Rather than a glassine jacket, this copy has a printed jacket with an image (likely by Barry Hall) and the title printed on the front panel. We are aware of one other use of this jacket, on a copy in the library of one of Raworth’s literary executors, the poet, Miles Champion, who says, “My guess is that, at this stage (and bearing in mind that this was Goliard’s first book publication), Tom and Barry were experimenting with a different cover, which they soon abandoned (perhaps partly due to the illegibility of the mauve type on the front).” The book is fine, the jacket somewhat chipped and edgeworn. The back cover is somewhat marked by offsetting as a result of prolonged contact with the Japanese rice paper that covers the boards.
