Quartz Hearts.

This Press, 1978. Item #2201

Sewn in wrappers. Coolidge's 1978 collection of poems which, as Coolidge notes in the back, was composed as he was working on "both the last section of Polaroid (completed August 1973) and the beginning of my long (as yet untitled) "prosoid" work (first section completed November 1973). It is in every sense a hinge work, reflecting a fresh interest in sentence structure as axial armature, the final movement of Polaroid had pushed me toward, the "prosoid"'s lengths would explore in full."

This copy is from the library of the poet Dick Gallup and is inscribed to him on the f.f.e. in 1978: "For Dick, With Love." Coolidge has also added an autograph quote from The Guermantes Way, by Proust, on the half-title: "A man who is in the habit of smiling in the glass at his handsome face and stalwart figure, if you shew him their radiograph, will have, face to face with that rosary of bones, labelled as being the image of himself, the same suspicion of error as the visitor to an art gallery who, on coming to the portrait of a girl, reads in his catalogue: "'Dromedary resting.'"

This is from an edition of 500 copies, of which 26 are lettered and signed by the poet. This is from the regular edition.

Very good minus, with shelf wear on the covers and a minor blemish on the f.f.e., though an otherwise clean interior. A nice association copy.
