Light green card, 7 3/8 x 9 3/8 in. onto which is mounted a slightly smaller leaf with a drawing by Jess which frames "The Scattering," a poem by Robert Duncan, the first line of which reads "We heard it as a cry It was the Word." The twelve line poem is hand lettered in multiple colors and initialed by the poet. See photos. It is inscribed "1966–7" in the lower left corner and "JS" in the lower right. Original mailing envelope hand-lettered like the poem in several colors and addressed to Jack & Joanne Boyce [Joanne Kyger] in Bodega Bay, California Dec. 28, 1968. Very good plus, some spotting and age toning.
