Posters from the Poetry Project at St. Mark's Church 1974–1975 Monthly Reading Series.
N.p., 1974–1975. Item #3483 For the October 1974–June 1975 season, Paula North created nine posters to advertise The Poetry Project at St. Mark's Church's monthly reading series. Though famous for its mimeograph publications and the role they played in defining the mimeograph revolution, the distinctive artwork that adorned The Project’s book covers and posters from the era was printed offset, allowing the artists now synonymous with St. Mark’s—Joe Brainard, George Schneeman, North herself—finer linework, deeper blacks, and more vibrant colors than could be achieved on a mimeograph machine. This collection comprises eight original pen and ink drawings by Paula North for posters from the 1974–1975 season. Each drawing, done on cardboard and ranging in size from 10 x 16 in. to 15 x 20 in., has an acetate overlay, also hand-inked by North, used to block color. Together, these pieces make up a maquette and would have been used to produce a camera-ready plate for offset printing of the posters. Maquettes for every month of the season, except for April, are included. Also included are the corresponding posters from eight months of the season, excepting June, for which North’s original pen and ink draft is included. Posters range from 10 x 16 in. to 13 x 19 in.
