Ideal Boy.
Helpful Book, 2015. Item #3741
10 x 13 in. cloth-bound clamshell case, housing cloth over boards book with screenprinted paper wrapper by Ann Agee.
This gorgeous production, designed by Leah Roschke, pairs Ed Friedman's poetry with drawings by Kim MacConnel. Friedman’s poems for Ideal Boy are also published, without drawings, in his collection, Two Towns (Hanging Loose Press, 2015). MacConnel’s illustrations are drawn from Hong Kong copy books published in the 1970s by Nam San. The design of Ann Agee’s covers, for which there are four variations, are derived from her “Guide Book” series, and the languages represented are Tamil, Urdu, Khemer, and Tajik.
The text is composed in Minion and Futura, and both text and illustrations are printed offset lithography on Finch Fine Smooth. The book was smyth-sewn and casebound by Neyenesch Printers, with silkscreened wrapper on Shiramine papers.
Printed by Neyenesch Printers in San Diego, California. This is no. 27 from an edition of 200 copies, signed by author, illustrator, and cover artist. As new.
