Master Artwork.
The Hermetic Press, 1985. Item #3838
10 x 12 in. black plastic three-ring binder, containing 12 sheets of paper and Mylar. The text reads: "WARNING: if this note is not printed in red, this artwork is not a first generation manufacturing master and must not be used to produce parts. Master artwork shall be supplied to the vendor and returned with the completed order."
Over the course of this artists' book, Gallo prints this text using various colors (black and red) and techniques (letterpress, silkscreen, Xerox, and rubber stamp). Though the pages are listed in the colophon, the colophon also suggests that "the order of text is arbitrary and may be altered." The work overall insinuates a play on ideas of editioning, authenticity, and reprography.
The work was commissioned by the Minnesota Center for Book Arts, through a grant received from Northwest Area Foundation. This is from an edition of 50 copies. Signed by the artist/printer. Fine.
Price: $750.00
