Red M(irage), no. 1.
Red Herring Press, 1977. Item #3842
Saddle-stitched offset in wrappers. Cover unattributed. Produced at The Print Center in Brooklyn, a "non-profit printing facility for literary and arts-related publications." An early endeavor by David Wojnarowicz and John Enslin, dedicated to the memory of Lee Adler, Enslin's girlfriend who was murdered prior to the publication. Though announced as a quarterly publication, this is the sole issue. The magazine states that "the mirage being symbolic of chance forces being present in a definite order at a precise time in order to provide sight behind the eyes...The mirage being red only because the word-form 'RED' precedes the word 'M(IRAGE)' thereby producing a color that is only noticeable or visible behind the eyes...creating yet another mirage." Years later,, Enslin would recall "the magazine, if it had any kind of collective reason for being—it was a celebration of people’s individual visions," (Carr, Cynthia. Fire in the Belly.).
Near fine with toning to covers and creasing near spine. "Review Copy" written in blue ink on inside front cover with press name and address written in red ink. Original insert and errata card both included. Insert folded twice as issued. Both fine.
