Quarter bound cloth over printed paper boards, with handsewn binding. Large format, full-color artists' book, with text by Johanna Drucker (from her earlier work, Deterring Discourse) and digital prepress, photographs, and offset printing by Brad Freeman. The book was printed on Mohawk Superfine and Monadnock Astrolite (both neutral pH) with Wikoff Sunfast Ink at Nexus Press in Atlanta.

Emerging Sentience was produced for the Poetry Plastique exhibition organized by Charles Bernstein and Jay Sanders at the Marianne Boesky Gallery. The book explores "sentience as an emergent property of intelligent systems" (Artists' Books Online). 

The digital film for this book was produced through the Institute for Electronic Arts (iea) at Alfred University, Alfred, N.Y., and imageset on a SelectSet Avantra 25 S provided by AGFA Corporation.

This is from an edition of 50 copies, numbered 36 and signed by Drucker and Freeman. 

A very good copy, with some foxing to the front cover, and a slight wiggle to the binding. There is a bump on the upper left spine and text block. Else, crisp, fine interior. A very scarce title.
