Bachelor Machine / Bride Motor : A Typo/Topography of The Large Glass.
Philadelphia Museum of Art, 2002. Item #4069
2 oversize prints, 55 x 38 1/2 in., printed in the dimensions of a standard road map and folded as such, housed in a plastic case, as published.
The English-language edition of this "double map" by the English artist Richard Hamilton, serves as a visual primer for Marcel Duchamp's "The Bride Stripped Bare by Her Bachelors, Even"/"The Large Glass." Produced in 2002 for the Philadelphia Museum of Art, from Hamilton's 2000 edition, created in French for the Musée National d'Art Moderne. Described by Anne d'Harnoncourt, Director of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, as an "elegant and intelligent chart of [Hamilton's] friend's enigmatic and provocative ideas," this computer-generated map serves as an ambitious culmination of Hamilton's 40-year long engagement with the work of Duchamp, his close friend. With design assistance from Roderick Hamilton. From the library of the poet Bobbie Louise Hawkins.
Maps are near fine with a shallow bend to the bottom right corner of the green map's front cover, housed in a near fine plastic case.
