A new work by poet and printer Philip Gallo. Subtitled "A Mindfulness of Type," this book explores and showcases type used by Gallo across 50 years of printing under his imprint, The Hermetic Press.
In addition to an introductory bibliography of Gallo's book works (1975–2019) in the shape of a tree, the book itself is divided into two parts, "Plagiarizing Myself" and "Post Hoc Ergo Propter Hoc and Other Fallacies." Within each, Gallo reproduces poems that the colophon describes as having been previously "printed on 5 x 7-inch cards and sent to friends of the press. The Printer, however, being of a dilatory nature, sent out so few he feels it not unwarranted to call them new...and to include them in this new book."
Throughout, Gallo's characteristic concrete style is on display, arranging words and images with attentiveness to typographical, poetic, and symbolic meaning.
