What's With Modern Art?
Mike & Dale's Press, 1999. Item #4160
Saddle-stitched in paper wrappers. Back cover photograph of O'Hara by Renate Ponsold. A collection of O'Hara's art writing, edited by Bill Berkson. Largely comprised of reviews from Art News (1953–1955), the volume also includes pieces from New Images of Man, Ingenue, and O'Hara's voiceover for David Smith: Sculpting Master of Bolton Landing. Berkson also notes that O'Hara's biographer, Alexander Smith, Jr., discovered the essay "Teens Quiz a Critic: What's With Modern Art?" and "retyped practically all of the short reviews O'Hara wrote for Art News. Alex's typescripts formed the basis from which the present selection was made."
This is from an edition of 1500 copies, printed at McNaughton & Gunn in January 1999. Though not stated, this copy is from the library of the poet Ron Padgett.
Very good plus, with light shelf wear and toning to covers.
