The Floating Bear, no. 15. November 1961. Diane Di Prima, LeRoi Jones, Amiri Baraka.

The Floating Bear, no. 15. November 1961.

Item #4193

Corner-stapled, mimeograph. The 15th issue of di Prima and Baraka's influential little magazine and newsletter. This issue published following Baraka's arrest for distributing "obscene" material through the mail, and with a notice on the final page stating that "The fight between the U.S. Post Office and The Floating Bear is not yet settled. We'll keep you posted on any developments as soon as they happen..."

Per the mailing address, this copy is from the library of Paul Blackburn, and was obtained by the bookseller Laurence McGilvery during the publication process of his facsimile edition of The Floating Bear. To create the facsimile, McGilvery removed the staples of the issues used, though this issue remains bound, suggesting it was not used to produce the facsimile.

Contributors include: Bruce Boyd, Allen Ginsberg ("History of the Jewish Socialist Party in America"), Frank O'Hara, and Joseph LeSueur writing on recent productions at the New York Poets' Theatre.

Very good plus, with the expected center fold from mailing, minor toning, and some darkening on the bottom left-hand corner of the front page.

Price: $175.00
