Sewn in wrappers. Cover by Keith Waldrop. A collection of poems by Mathews, published by Keith and Rosmarie Waldrop's Burning Deck Press, founded in 1961. This copy is from the library of novelist, essayist, and journalist Maggie Paley, an active member of the New York School, a former editor for The Paris Review, and a friend of Mathews. It is inscribed to Paley by Mathews: "for when 'my eyes were stuck open in pleasures of faith...'"
This is from an edition of 1000 copies printed letterpress on Warren Antique by Rosmarie Waldrop, of which 50 are clothbound and signed. This is from the regular edition in paper wrappers.
Very good, with light shelf wear and some toning and soiling to the back cover.
