Burning Deck Press, 1979. Item #4243
Saddle-stitched in yellow paper wrappers in a yellow paper, letterpress dust jacket. A collection of poems by Elmslie published by Rosmarie and Keith Waldrop's Burning Deck Press. The text was linotyped in 11 pt. Devinne by Mollohan Typesetting.
This copy is from the library of the poet Bill Corbett, and is inscribed to him on September 29, 1979, on the title page: "For Bill - 'microscopic attention span units.' - Love, Kenward. P.S. Happy Anniversary!!" In addition to the inscription, two postcards are laid in. The first is from Elmslie to Corbett and lacks a stamp or mailing date, suggesting it was likely included in the book rather than mailed. It discusses missing Corbett "that weekend" and trying to "corral some useful reaction" to his work. A second postcard is also laid in, with an image of children, birds, and the American flag and the text "Young Boston Sends Greetings" on the cover. It is dated 1908 and addressed to "Mrs Miller Atta," and likely a Boston-themed gift from Elmslie's postcard collection.
This is from an edition of 26 copies printed on Barcham Green Charter Oak, and signed by the poet. There was also an edition of 500 copies on Warren Old Style.
Near fine with a minor stain on the front cover (see photograph) and mild shelf wear. A lovely association copy.
Price: $175.00
