Chrononhotonthologos: The Most Tragical Tragedy, That Ever was Tragediz’d by any Company of Tragedians.
Adventures in Poetry, 1971. Item #552
Side-stapled, mimeograph. Introduction by Ron Padgett and Johnny Stanton. A reproduction of the dramatic work by the English poet, dramatist, and satirist Henry Carey, first performed in 1734 at the Little Theatre in the Haymarket. This edition of the text is, per Padgett and Stanton, mostly faithful to the 1743 edition of the Dramatic Works of Henry Carey, edited by Carey himself. Many of Carey's works were written or published anonymously, and much of his biography is obscured, though Padgett and Stanton, in their introduction, note that it can safely asserted that Carey was the first to introduce "Namby-Pamby" to the English vocabulary.
This is from an edition of 250 copies per the colophon, though according to both Adventures in Poetry Catalogs the edition is 300 copies. Though not stated, this copy is from the library of the author, Ron Padgett.
Near fine with some discoloration around the staples and light toning.
Price: $100.00
