The Marriage of Heaven and Hell: A Reading and Study.

Granary Books, 1993. Item #GB_26

12 x 12 1/2 in., 50 pp., drawn and painted paper over boards in clamshell box.

An affinity with Blake’s sense of the integrity of the artist’s vision and self-created world has long been a salient characteristic of Barbara Fahrner’s work. In this book, typography reflects the stylistic eccentricities of Blake’s poem while Fahrner’s drawings respond to its powerful statement. The commanding dimensionality and craftsmanship equally reference Blake’s impassioned text as well as his own work as an artist/publisher.

Text designed and printed letterpress by Philip Gallo at The Hermetic Press. Original drawing and painting by Barbara Fahrner. Bound in cloth and paper over boards by Daniel E. Kelm and staff at the Wide Awake Garage. Housed in a cloth-covered clamshell box by Jill Jevne. Two Blakean drawings by Fahrner printed, handcolored, and given away with copies of the book. This is from an edition of 41 copies, of which 11 are hors commerce and 30 are for sale, each numbered and signed by Fahrner and Gallo. Out-of-print. As new.
