Fiona Templeton Archive
The archive comprises the complete papers and files of Fiona Templeton, experimental playwright, director, poet, and performer. She has been active in experimental theater since the 1970s, first with The Theatre of Mistakes in London, and later with her own site-specific projects in New York City (where her work has been based since 1978), Central America, Europe, and recently, Japan. She was active in the Downtown New York performance scene from the 1970s–1980s, as well as communities adjacent to The Poetry Project and the small press/little magazine revolution. Her work is particularly invested in women’s voices, the relationship between performer and audience, and the possibilities of experimental approaches to space and time.
In recent years, Templeton established a production company named The Relationship, underscoring the importance of the interaction between audience and performer, and broadly, people with each other, to her ethos of performance. The Relationship has produced the work The Blue by Templeton, The Triumph of Crowds by Brigid McLeer, and Non-Sequitur by Khadijah Queen, and administers the Leslie Scalapino Awards for Innovative Women Performance Writers.
The archive has sold.
