The complete archive of choreographer, dancer, and artistic director Donald Byrd. The collection includes extensive photographic documentation of performances, rehearsals, and company members; professional and personal correspondence; production materials for major works including performance binders, scripts, and scores; notebooks; creative and administrative records from Donald Byrd/The Group, Donald Byrd Dance Foundation, and Byrd’s ongoing tenure at Spectrum Dance Theater. A robust audio/visual series captures footage of rehearsals and performances from approx. 1984 to 2014. The archive comprehensively documents Byrd’s artistic evolution and creative process across five decades, with particular emphasis on landmark productions such as The Harlem Nutcracker, Jazz Train, The Minstrel Show, and In a Different Light: Duke Ellington.
