Lawrence Welsh Archive

Lawrence Welsh Archive

Lawrence Welsh (1959–) is a first generation Irish-American poet, journalist, punk musician, and teacher, with deep roots in the American Southwest and Los Angeles. Welsh’s poetry has been deemed “deftly written and acute” by Clayton Eshleman, and he has been called “one of our most important border region poets” by Beyond Baroque Literary Arts Center in Venice, California. Drawing influence from poets in the Beat, Black Mountain, and San Francisco Renaissance traditions, Welsh transmutes postwar American poetics through the wisdom of the desert, sweat lodges, punk, and dream visions.
