The Floating Bear Archive of Laurence McGilvery

The Floating Bear Archive of Laurence McGilvery

The archive of Laurence McGilvery’s 1973 facsimile edition of Diane di Prima and Amiri Baraka’s little magazine, The Floating Bear (1961–1971, in 38 issues), with correspondence, transcripts, working files, and publishers’ ephemera, and a complete set of the publication as used in the production of the facsimile. Documents within the archive contain some of di Prima’s most thorough recountings of the history of her pivotal little magazine, and shed significant insight into its contributors, publication practices, and longevity.
