Susan Howe Archive

Susan Howe Archive

This collection comprises the literary papers of Susan Howe, with materials assembled post-2009. This collection includes correspondence, drafts of work, notebooks, planners, professional files, personal and family files, photographs, artworks, ephemera, audio/visual items, extensively-annotated books owned by Howe, and digital files. Of special note in this collection are printed typescripts, typescripts, and autograph notes that document her revision process for poetry, prose, performance, and also her signature paste-up technique for “word collage” poems. Correspondence files, and a substantial collection of notebooks, also situate Howe’s work alongside her literary community (especially New Directions), historical and present family, and the research collections that inform her processes.
