Granary Books, 1996. Item #GB_42
12 1/2 x 12 1/4 in., 32 pp., cloth over boards.
“This book is a homage to Schwitters. How to do his work justice if not in earnest play?/ A Play with words, a play with three languages, German, English and the image language. The book, which I produced for Steve Clay’s Granary Books edition, demands an intensive read. It is full of allusions, respect and humor.”
Barbara Fahrner made the drawings and completed the hand work. The images were variously printed and rendered in pen, ink, watercolor, lino-cut, and “cliché-print.” Poems by Kurt Schwitters are printed in German, as well as in English. Translations by Jerome Rothenberg and Pierre Joris.
Printed letterpress on Arches by Dieter Sdun in Germany. Bound in cloth over boards by Jill Jevne. This is from an edition of 50 copies, of which 10 are hors commerce and 40 are for sale, plus 1 artist’s proof; each signed by Fahrner and Rothenberg. As new.
