Granary Books, 1999. Item #GB_71

10 1/4 x 8 1/2 in., 18 pp., printed cloth over boards with mylar jacket.

“At a time when glib appropriations of popular culture permeate almost every facet of contemporary art, Winkfield transforms a pop-inflected imagery into something personal and rooted...His work looks nothing like the major art we’ve come to expect from the standard surveys of late 20th century culture.”
–Mario Naves, The New York Observer

Vivid and colorful visual images by Trevor Winkfield, paired with writings by Larry Fagin. If the twentieth century was the century of artists' books, then Dig & Delve was its perfect final act, embracing the contradictions that characterize the beginnings and endings of the 1900s. Dig & Delve is a postmodern illustrated book; it tropes on the genre of the much-maligned livre d’artiste, playfully dancing on the tightrope between pre-Raphaelite sensibility and radical artifice. Ultimately a happy work, the book is optimistic, antediluvian, and generous, a perfect passport to a new millennium.

Winkfield’s color images and Fagin’s texts were typeset by Ruth Lingen and Barbara Henry, and masterfully letterpress printed by Lingen at her Pooté Press in New York. Bound in printed cloth over boards by Judith Ivry. This is no. 60 from an edition of 67 copies, of which 50 are for sale. Out-of-print. Fine.
